Our 2606RL 2019 Minnie Winnebago
“Because in the end, you won’t remember the times you spent in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.” – Jack Kerouac
The Husband is not one to shy away from a good deal, especially if that deal happens to have wheels. We had a couple of glamping homes prior to our current 2606RL, but none of them had been brand-spanking-new. After a little haggling and an unexpected bit of pressure to get the last model year of jewel-tone colors, we drove to Lynchburg, VA to secure our new home-on-wheels in 2019.
We are avid seekers of fun. Well, maybe that’s me. The Husband is an avid do-er. He likes to move his body constantly from one activity to another. (I don’t use the word “constantly” lightly.) Camping is perfect for him because he can hike, bike, cook, gather firewood, and tinker with any part of the camper that might need perfecting. I’m more of a sit-in-a-chair-and-read-a-book sort of person. His antics amuse me, though, so I sit and watch him move while marveling at the sheer enormity of the calories it must take to keep him in continual motion.
Our Minnie Winnie has had a number of modifications, thanks to The Husband’s ingenuity and aforementioned need to move at all times. So far, he has done the following (this won’t be a comprehensive list, I’m sure):
- removed the folding couch that came with the camper and installed a double recliner
- permanently affixed all artwork
- added an electrical outlet on the kitchen counter (because…COFFEE)
- added a backsplash in the kitchen
- designed, constructed, and added shelves in the main closet in the living area/kitchen
- designed, constructed and added shelves in the bathroom closet
- designed, constructed and added shelves in our clothes closets
- installed a backsplash in the shower and behind the bathroom sink
- added a television in the bedroom (with a new electrical outlet because he didn’t like where the existing one was)
- installed reading lights above the bed
- designed and constructed small shelves for reading glasses and books above the bed
- added a backup camera to the back of the Minnie Winnie
I’m sure I’m forgetting all the outside functional things he has done, but I started to get a little sleepy just typing the bulleted list above.
We’re starting this blog to not only chronicle our upcoming Great Western Adventure but to serve as a record of all our travels. Life with friends in adventure is one of my favorite parts of life with The Husband. We share the same mindset when it comes to both travel and spending time in nature with people we love. And we get to do it with a tiny traveling home we’ve created together.
Life, as they say, is good. I hope you’ll follow our adventures…and maybe even join in!
